It’s been a couple of months since the WCID started in all earnest with very hard work in Welgemoed and we’ve achieved some notable successes, in the areas of safety, security, cleaning and greening.
- Two dedicated public patrol vehicles with (licence plate recognition) LPR technology. Public safety duties also include the reporting on C3
- One additional control room officer, 24 hours a day
- Upgraded control room monitoring equipment
Cleaning & Greening
We have established a new relationship with M.E.S., who have been contracted to clean our public areas while creating employment at the same time – they have two teams of three members who work four hours per day, three days a week.
Their main tasks are picking up and removal of litter in public areas, clearing of weeks, brush cutting, tree trimming and general landscaping duties in hard-to-reach areas often overlooked by CoCT contractors.
To date, they have removed 1150 bags of rubbish – or 11.5 tonnes!
The new open-air gym at Goewerneur Park has been installed, as a step towards making our Welgemoed parks and open spaces a drawcard for young and old.
The WCID committee has been formalised with portfolio leaders, establishing relationships with all relevant City of Cape Town service areas in support of the WCID business plan execution.
